Job Description:
The Dean of Students is responsible for ensuring a high achievement culture that does not tolerate distractions. Working in tight communication and in rigorous support of school staff, the Dean of Students is "on the ground," providing classroom management techniques, mediation, and attendance tracking. Using diligent monitoring of student routines regarding entry to school, lunch period, assemblies, dismissal, and detention, the Dean assures the necessary controls to achieve maximum student achievement.

The Dean of Students will be responsible for the following:
- Influencing the growth and development of an achievement-focused school culture through the SEL program, including leading circles, community meetings, and/or teaching SEL course(s)
- Managing the discipline for up to 700 students with a restorative justice model
- Meeting with students, teachers and parents, collectively or independently, to implement ways to support a positive and cooperative school environment
- Maintaining databases and up to date student information on attendance, discipline and merit records
- Maintaining and monitoring safety and order by being accessible and visible in hallways, classrooms, during arrival/dismissal of students, lunch periods, after school programs including detention, homework club, etc.
- Supporting teachers in developing and implementing classroom management strategies and plans for individual students as needed.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in or experience in social work or counseling with five years urban youth experience preferred
- Strong administrative background that reflects strong management and communication skills
- Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated capacity to work with urban youth
- Knowledge of public education and charter schools highly desirable but not required.
