Job Description:
Responsible for classroom management, development of lesson plans, implementation of curriculum, and integration of necessary modifications to meet needs of special needs children. Responsible for required documentation and to ensure classroom compliance with regulatory requirements. Keeps supervisor and team members apprised of events, needs, and concerns of the classroom and department. Responsible to plan, organize, direct and implement stimulating and educationally based activities for the children in the classroom. Implements curriculum, conducts assessments 3 time per year, conducts family conferences in accordance with assessments, develops lesson plans and daily schedules to provide structured environment to promote social, emotional and cognitive development. Maintains children's portfolios. Ensures materials are available to carryout activities. Promotes a positive learning environment by providing choices for children and keeping children actively engaged. Responsible to be current with special needs of children in the classroom. Collaborates with the Director of Children's Services, Disabilities and Mental Health Coordinator, and therapy staff to incorporate special education and therapy objectives of children. Collaborates with team to develop behavior plans as needed. Follows therapy and special education objectives for children in the classroom with special needs. Ensures timely administration of medication and medical procedures according to policy. Monitors children's health, keeps Health Care and Nutrition Coordinator and center director informed and contacts parents when children must be sent home. Coordinates communication with parents through parent teacher meetings and daily classroom communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in early childhood development or education field; or must be on tract to complete the degree by 2012.
