Job Description:
The high school fine arts department chairperson's duties include: formative evaluation of fine arts teachers, evaluation of textbooks, budgeting, ordering, supervising the fine arts curriculum, implementing changes in the fine arts curriculum, conducting department meetings, attending K-12 Fine Arts Curriculum meetings, presenting testimony for adoption of new textbooks, evaluating student course level changes and attending parent conferences. The classroom-teaching load is reduced as a result of these duties. Salary per 2009-2010 Teachers' Salary Schedule, plus $3,846 salary differential.
An undergraduate and/or graduate fine arts major is required. Applicants must hold a valid Connecticut fine arts (PK-12) certification, with endorsements #042 and/or #049, AND Connecticut Department Chairperson certification (#105) or Connecticut Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (#092). The successful candidate must have the ability, and the interest, to teach a variety of fine arts courses. Preference will be given to applicants with previous successful fine arts teaching and department chair experience. The successful candidate must also have excellent interpersonal skills.
