Principal-in-Residence
Location: Bridgeport, CT

Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high performing charter school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, Achievement First is creating a network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in Connecticut and New York.

Each school division (K-4, 5-8, and 9-12) has a Dean of Students, Academic Dean, and Principal. These three leaders work together to ensure that all students show dramatic student achievement gains and internalize the school's REACH (respect, enthusiasm, achievement, citizenship, and hard work) values.
The Principal in Residence program allows participants to serve as an Academic Dean or Dean of Students for a year prior to opening a new school. The Principal in Residence works with the Principal to split the instructional leadership role. Superintendants will provide heavy support from February on, as the Principal in Residence works to transition into a Principal position.
The Academic Dean works to ensure that every child is progressing at least one level (e.g. level 3 to level 4) or below proficient to proficient OR reaching ambitious targets for school-wide levels of proficiency/mastery.
The Dean of Students leads the school's efforts to create a positive, structured, disciplined school culture.
Educational background and work experience
- A bachelor's degree from a competitive university is required, a Master's Degree is preferred
- Successful past experience leading adults
- 4 years of urban teaching experience
