6TH-8TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER - Detroit Merit Academy (Fall '09)

Responsibilities
Teachers at NHA are responsible for planning, developing and presenting organized learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved curriculum and State standards at the assigned grade level. The teacher will prepare lesson plans, use data driven instruction to gauge student learning, maintain a welcoming, safe and attractive classroom environment, and establish high standards of student behavior.
Accountabilities
Teachers will be held accountable for the student achievement and growth in their classroom, establishing relationships with both students and parents, and participating in all aspects of class and school planning. We are seeking candidates that are reliable and punctual in order to provide continuity and stability in the classroom and that demonstrate moral focus and personal values to students in everyday settings. Candidates should be self starters with effective classroom management skills, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for education.
Qualifications
All candidates must have a valid Michigan elementary or secondary teaching certificate with an endorsement in 6-8 or 6-12 Social Studies.
Prior experience working with middle school students is preferred.
