Teams are comprised of Administrators, certified special education teachers, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Pediatric School Nurses, Classroom Support Staff and more. We are searching for Certified Special Education Teachers who can provide engaging and differentiated academic lessons for all subjects for the classroom they are responsible for. Teachers will work collaboratively with our clinicians, administration, and classroom support staff to ensure student success within our program.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare students' individual goals and objectives in SMART format.
  • Implement the IEP as approved by the PPT.
  • Submit report cards and IEP progress marks by due dates, proofing and editing as needed.
  • Develop system to track student progress on IEP goals.
  • Conduct academic assessments three times a year (i.e. Star 360) to track student progress and inform IEP goals and - objectives.
  • Prepare for and participate in PPT's.
  • Prepare for and participate in Team Meetings.
  • Develop written lesson plans and implement engaging, differentiated academic lessons that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards during all subjects within the classroom.
  • Develop and implement appropriate assessments of student learning to inform instruction and maintain grade book.
  • Coordinate scheduling of classroom schedules and activities.
  • Daily communication with parents/guardians via home notes, e-mails, or phone calls.
Behavior Management
  • Implement PBIS practices with fidelity.
  • Implement TCI strategies to support students emotionally and behaviorally.
  • Implements students' BIPs throughout the school day.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set limits and maintain personal boundaries.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with students/families.
  • Effectively use patience and therapeutic tone in day-to-day interactions with students.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Level: BA Degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university required.
Master's Level: MA degree in Education from an accredited college or university.
Valid CT 165 certification from CT SDE preferred.
DSAP will be considered.
All Levels: Minimum of one year of experience in a special education classroom preferred. Some experience with ED population required.
CPR certification required within 90 days of hire (training provided by Solterra Academy).
Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention required with the first training course provided after hire date (training provided by Solterra Academy).
