POSITION TITLE: Operations Accountant

POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, this position will assist with all accounting, budgeting and financial related functions within the Operations Department.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Create, document, communicate and ensure compliance with CREC policies, standards and procedures; 
  • Analyze and maintain program budgets and reconciliation to actuals; 
  • Compliance with all State and independent audit requirements; 
  • Provide accounting support for the audits; 
  • Prepare financial reports for projects; 
  • Prepare payable reports and reconcile to vendor billing; 
  • Ensure budget and cash flow projections are accurate; 
  • Assist with the reconciliation of the general ledger and reconcile various large vendor activity and provide subsidiary ledger analysis; 
  • Perform various analytical research for projects, including vendor bids and contracts; 
  • Perform internal audits on various operation programs and accounts; 
  • Prepare reports for various government agencies and stakeholders; 
  • Review and approve quotes and bidding documentation process, vendor invoices and payment applications.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Perform other accounting duties as assigned.


EQUIPMENT:

Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers, copier, calculator and printer.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of accounting and understanding of complex business practices.
  • Understanding of systems and funding mechanisms.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Ability to perform work independently.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas, orally and written, so others will understand.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to create, maintain and organize large amounts of complex data and prepare reports on data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, macros and links), Google Docs and Microsoft Word.  Experience with TYLER/MUNIS financial system is a plus.
  • Ability to learn various State systems for reporting and filings.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, and performs complex math calculations as required.
  • Ability to perform general office duties, such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.
  • Ability to operate and manage within the policies and procedures including scheduling, deadlines, day-to-day problem solving and report writing.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS:
  • Work in a standard office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.  Minimum of three years of demonstrated successful experience and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Knowledge and experience in Governmental Fund Accounting a plus.  Demonstrated proficiency with administrative computing on multiple platforms.
Requires attention to detail, accuracy and excellent interpersonal skills.
