Position Summary
Gateway Science Academy South is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive Elementary English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to support multilingual students in grades K–5. The ELL teacher will provide targeted language instruction, support access to grade-level content, and collaborate with staff and families to ensure academic success and language development in alignment with Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines.

Gateway Science Academy South is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive Elementary English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to support multilingual students in grades K–5. The ELL teacher will provide targeted language instruction, support access to grade-level content, and collaborate with staff and families to ensure academic success and language development in alignment with Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Language Development
- Provide direct English language development (ELD) instruction aligned to state standards (WIDA)
- Deliver instruction through push-in and/or pull-out service models
- Differentiate instruction to support varying levels of English proficiency
- Integrate language objectives with content-area learning
- Administer and interpret language proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS)
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and services
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support sheltered instruction (e.g., SIOP strategies)
- Assist teachers in adapting materials and assessments for EL students
- Participate in MTSS and problem-solving teams
- Communicate effectively with families, including those with limited English proficiency
- Support translation/interpretation needs when appropriate
- Promote a welcoming and inclusive school environment
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district requirements for English Learners
- Maintain documentation for EL plans and required reporting
- Support program evaluation and improvement efforts
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
- Valid Missouri teaching certification
- ESOL/ELL certification or required coursework toward certification
- Knowledge of second language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching practices
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience teaching English Learners at the elementary level
- Familiarity with WIDA standards and assessments
- Training in sheltered instruction (SIOP) or similar frameworks
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities
