INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCE TEACHER (IRT) - Toffolon Elementary School
General Function:  The focus of this position is to support the development of teacher capacity to deliver high quality literacy instruction.  The Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT) will work closely with teachers to develop effective teaching, learning, and assessment strategies.  The IRT will also work with tutors to support the implementation of supplemental supports interventions with fidelity. 
In this role, the IRT will also work with the principal and the Director of Curriculum to perform the following responsibilities:
  • Model and co-teach instruction through team taught lessons
  • Assist K-5 classroom teachers in development and implementation of curriculum instructional strategies, and delivery models
  • Facilitate Professional Learning Community meetings
  • Assist K-5 classroom teachers in organizing and tracking of multiple methods of assessment
  • Work with K-5 teachers to support responsive instruction for all students, including English Language Learners
  • Plan based on the needs of teachers and aid in designing support and planning professional learning opportunities
  • Use data to identity areas of need in instruction
  • Research, identify and provide resources for teachers that support instruction
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING REQUIRED

-     Connecticut Elementary Educator Certification.
-     Minimum five years of successful Elementary teaching experience.
-     Advanced studies or professional development in reading.
-     Experience teaching with the Teachers College Readers and Writers Workshop curriculum.
-     Demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff.
-     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-     Strong background in instructional delivery.
 
*This Instructional Resource Teacher position is temporary utilizing available grant funding for the duration of three-years. This position will be reviewed annually.  If an internal candidate is granted this position, they will have the opportunity to return to a position within their certification if the position ends after the three year grant funding has expired.
