Middle School Band/ General Music Teacher
East Shore Middle School

Goal:
The middle school music program in Milford Public Schools is a place where students continue to discover their passion for music.  The middle school music teacher directs the middle school band in addition to teaching general music classes.  The music teacher works collaboratively with in school and across district department colleagues to continue to build a program that is cohesive and aligned with the district’s vision for High Quality Instruction and Vision of the Learner while continually working within the Developmental Relationships Framework.  
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Directs the middle school band including 3-5 performances a year
  • Proficient on all middle school band instruments and able to diagnose and correct musical errors. Teaches general music classes with a focus on musical literacy through percussion, ukulele, keyboards, and guitar
  • Knowledgeable of grade level appropriate repertoire that is responsive to student ability and representative various cultures and backgrounds
  • Plans lessons that are engaging and challenging with a focus on student centered instruction for band and general music
  • Demonstrates elements of high quality instruction in all lessons
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional strategies that reflect understanding of individual learning styles and needs
  • Creates a positive and safe learning environment in which students are willing to take risks and is considerate of physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Communicates learning expectations that are aligned with the National Core Arts Standards and responsive to individual and whole group learning needs
