PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
 
This class is responsible for assisting the Superintendent with leadership and supervision in developing, achieving and enhancing instruction, curriculum, assessment, and Special Education programs and services. This position supervises and manages all academic service areas which include, but is not limited to, instructional improvement; curriculum and instruction; professional development; exceptional children services; academically gifted services; extracurricular activities, and support services.
 
PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
General Experience:
 
  1. Master's degree in education or related field and completion of seven (7) years of successful classroom teaching.
  2. Five (5) years of experience as a central office administrator in a Pre-K – 12 system, including supervision of principals, vice-principals, and other administrative staff.
  3. Experience in an urban school district and/or a multi-cultural environment is preferred.
 
Special Requirement:
 
  1. In addition to the checking of references and facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made prior to the appointment.
 
B. CREDENTIALS:
 
C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
 
  1. Connecticut State Board of Education certification as an Intermediate Administrator/Supervisor (092) or it's equivalent issued by the State of Connecticut, will be required at the time of appointment.
  2. Certificates 065 or 165 and 093 are preferred.
  3. The Superintendent of Schools may recommend appointing/assigning a candidate with acceptable training and experience to this position.
  4. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.
 
 
D. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 
  1. Active certification.
