REPORTS TO: Senior Executive Director of Special Education
POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of the Director of Compliance is to create and maintain an effective system of ensuring that IEP mandated services are appropriate for all students with disabilities. The Director will ensure a system of general supervision for students with disabilities so that students are provided with a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). 
The Director will be responsible for learning and implementing a system for the new CT-SEDS in order to ensure the district’s compliance with federal and state special education requirements and to improve the district’s special education programming. The Director will work collaboratively with building administrators and Special Education Directors to oversee the complaint resolution process. The Director will work proactively with other directors to problem solve and ensure the schools’ accountability of the delivery of special education IEP mandated services. The Director will develop and implement continuous professional learning opportunities for the district to allow all staff to learn and grow.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·      Oversee and provide support for special education directors and building administrators as they respond to any complaint regarding federal and state requirements.
·      Provide professional development regarding delivery of IEP mandated services.
·      Ensure the implementation of the district’s Dispute and Complaint Management System.
·      Identify trends in data to assist schools, staff, building leaders and Directors in developing systems to address needs.
·      Share best practices with all schools in order to build staff capacity.
·      Function as liaison between State and the district on behalf of students and their families.
·      Collaborate collegially with all parties responsible for service delivery, in an effort to ensure adherence to district’s directives, interventions, protocols, and accountability.
·      Perform other duties as directed by the Senior Executive Director of Special Education.
 
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES OF IDEAL CANDIDATE:
·      Advanced degree in special education is required.
·      Minimum of five (5) successful years of experience as a special education administrator.
·      Demonstrated successful experience working with students with disabilities.
 
 
·      Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state special education requirements.   
·      Successful teaching experience in special education.
·      Outstanding leadership and organizational skills.
·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·      Demonstrated ability to work effectively with parents, students, school staff, and community stakeholders.
·      Strong orientation toward urban school systems preferred.
 
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Connecticut Certification in Intermediate Administration/Supervision and Connecticut Certification in Special Education.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month work year. Salary in accordance with the Hartford Principals’ and Supervisors’ Association’s 2020-2021 Schedule: Director, Group 12, $132,536 – $144,286.
