JOB OPENING

Network Support Technician (Tier 2)
Salary Full-Time Staff ($61,500 to $67,000) Unaffiliated

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics and monitoring of the District’s network infrastructure, including but not limited to managing switches, telecommunication devices, 802.1x, wireless access points, routers, SAN, UPS/PDU, servers, network managed IoT devices and firewalls. Deploys rack-mounted equipment including but not limited to all the aforementioned equipment types into MDF/IDF closets throughout the District’s infrastructure. The position reports to the ITS Data Center Operations Manager and works directly with the ITS Network Engineer (Tier 3) in a supportive capacity role.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Network Troubleshooting/Diagnostics/Deployment
    • Installation, configuration and support of a wide variety of networking switches and other networking devices from various manufacturers, such as Cisco, Brocade and HPE.
    • Installation, configuration and support of Fortigate, Palo-Alto and PFsense firewalls.
    • Installation, configuration and support of Cisco Prime wireless infrastructure, wireless controllers, access points and wireless infrastructure monitoring.
    • Installation, configuration and support of telephony devices in a mixed Analog/Digital (Cisco CUCM) environment.
    • Installation, configuration and support of access control system devices
      (Open Options DNA Fusion, HID, ISONAS, ASSA)
    • Installation, configuration and support of security video cameras, servers and viewing stations (Analog/Digital) in a production Milestone environment.
    • Responsible for physically mounting wireless AP and IP cameras on ceilings and other surfaces, including running infrastructure network/fiber cabling and mounted wire molding in user spaces.
    • Maintains relationships and works directly with district vendors for the deployment, support and issue resolution for deployed equipment.
 
  • Software deployment and upgrades Including:
    • Desktop, server, end-point operating system and device firmware images
    • Network monitoring software applications, such as SCOM, Gravwell, PRTG, and BNA.
    • System Infrastructure and environmental monitoring experience (SIEM)
       
  • Experience with virtualization and virtualized network services, VMware strongly preferred
  • Experience in supporting Windows, MacOS X, iOS and Android
  • Experience with Windows Server and Linux and/or FreeBSD strongly preferred
  • Maintains the inventory of all District network and power management equipment
  • Provide on-site assistance and remote assistance to users
  • Process computers, networking equipment, and servers for recycling and data destruction
  • Must be able to move and carry equipment up to 50lbs
  • Other technology duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in Information Technology field
  • Experience providing PC hardware and software support services or documented training.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in Information Technology
  • CCNA, A-Plus and/or Network plus certification(s) strongly preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting techniques and consciousness of user uptime and needs
  • Strong organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow-up
