General Statement:
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Art - Secondary is responsible for supporting the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment - Secondary and 6-12 teachers in the development, implementation and curriculum renewal process.  The position requires the creation of professional development as it relates to the subject areas, the development of systems for sharing curriculum across the district, and the creation of model lessons for Art.
 
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Art - Secondary reports to the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment - Secondary (6-12).
 
Major Responsibilities:
 
Supports all aspects of the following areas:
  1. Curriculum Development & Implementation (75%)
 Develops Curriculum For Subject Areas – Identifies and gets approval for curriculum resources; aligns curriculum with local, state and other relevant standards; ensures vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum; assists in the development of instructional calendars; vets curriculum units that will be shared across the district; participates in the evaluation and review of curriculum; develops formative and summative assessments for Art; identifies Tier 1 Instructional Strategies.
 
Provides Implementation Support and Professional Development – Provides professional development and resources to schools in curriculum development, best instructional strategies, and assessments for Art  courses; creates and models lessons for key concepts for Art  courses; identifies best instructional practices for Art; participates in Learning Walks; provides coaching, mentoring, and peer sharing as needed; plans for differentiated  instruction; collaborates in the development of assessments and participates in the analysis of student results; monitors fidelity of curriculum implementation. 
 
Tier 1, 2, and 3 Instruction and Intervention – Collaborates with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment - Secondary to develop a philosophy for implementation for progress monitoring 6-12 to ensure the alignment of Tier 1 instruction with Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction and interventions.
 
  1. Program Evaluation (15%)
 Supports Program Evaluation – Supports Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment - Secondary in managing systems for collecting feedback and monitoring the impact of curriculum implementation; identifies intervention and enrichment needs; uses formative and summative assessments as part of a comprehensive curriculum evaluation plan; evaluates effectiveness of programs; revises curriculum based on feedback and local assessment.
 
  1. Other Duties (10%)
Coordinates with Board of Education departments, including but not limited to Teaching and Learning and Intervention and Support Services.
Collaborates with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment - Elementary (PreK-5), the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment - Secondary (6-12), to ensure vertical alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.  
Serve on committees as requested by the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, &
Assessment - Secondary.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • CT CSDE teaching certification in Art.
  • CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Secondary (6-12) Art.
  • Experience in an urban district, preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.
