Job Description:
General Statement:
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for English Learners (K-12) is responsible for supporting the Coordinator of English Learners - K-12 teachers in the development, implementation and curriculum renewal process. The position requires the creation of professional development as it relates to the subject areas, the development of systems for sharing curriculum across the district, and the creation of model lessons for English Learners.
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for English Learners (K-12) reports to the Coordinator of English Learners.
Major Responsibilities:
Provides Implementation Support and Professional Development – Provides professional development and resources to schools in curriculum development, best instructional strategies, and assessments for English Learner courses (including high school Sheltered classes); creates and models lessons for key concepts for English Learner courses; participates in Learning Walks; provides coaching, mentoring, and peer sharing as needed; plans for differentiated instruction; collaborates in the development of assessments and participates in the analysis of student results; monitors fidelity of curriculum implementation.
Tier 1, 2, and 3 Instruction and Intervention – Collaborates with the Coordinator of English Learners K-12 to develop a philosophy for implementation for progress monitoring K-12 to ensure the alignment of Tier 1 instruction with Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction and interventions.
Collaborates with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment - Elementary (PreK-5), the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment - Secondary (6-12), to ensure linguistically appropriate supports are included in other curricular areas.
Serve on committees as requested by the Coordinator of English Learners K-12.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:
- CT CSDE teaching certification in TESOL.
- CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092).
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching English Learners.
- Experience in an urban district, preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.
