General Statement:
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Music - Secondary is responsible for supporting the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment - Secondary and 6-12 teachers in the development, implementation and curriculum renewal process.  The position requires the creation of professional development as it relates to the subject areas, the development of systems for sharing curriculum across the district, and the creation of model lessons for Music.
 
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Music - Secondary reports to the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment - Secondary (6-12).
 
Major Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Implementation (75%) Develops Curriculum For Subject Areas – Identifies and gets approval for curriculum resources; aligns curriculum with local, state and other relevant standards; ensures vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum; assists in the development of instructional calendars; vets curriculum units that will be shared across the district; participates in the evaluation and review of curriculum; develops formative and summative assessments for Music; identifies Tier 1 Instructional Strategies.
 
Provides Implementation Support and Professional Development – Provides professional development and resources to schools in curriculum development, best instructional strategies, and assessments for Music courses; creates and models lessons for key concepts for Music  courses; identifies best instructional practices for Music; participates in Learning Walks; provides coaching, mentoring, and peer sharing as needed; plans for differentiated  instruction; collaborates in the development of assessments and participates in the analysis of student results; monitors fidelity of curriculum implementation.
 
Program Evaluation (15%) 
Supports Program Evaluation – Supports Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment - Secondary in managing systems for collecting feedback and monitoring the impact of curriculum implementation; identifies intervention and enrichment needs; uses formative and summative assessments as part of a comprehensive curriculum evaluation plan; evaluates effectiveness of programs; revises curriculum based on feedback and local assessment.

  • Commitment to creating schools that provide an education that cultivates productive habits of mind, body, and heart in every student.
  • Knowledge of and experience in curriculum planning, implementation and assessment.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of an integrated team and develop a collegial environment within the school to support staff in teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, adult learning theory, program implementation, best practices in instruction of students.
  • Understanding concepts of equity, diversity and inclusion, English Learner and Special Education instructional strategies, early grade intervention strategies, and peer coaching.
  • Use of data-driven decision making to determine effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, problem solving, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures related to public schools, specifically related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information, develop and monitor a plan and produce data-focused reports.
  • Familiarity with budget development/administration & understanding financial resources.
 
Qualifications:
  • CT CSDE teaching certification in Music.
  • CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Secondary (6-12) Music.
  • Experience in an urban district, preferred.
