Job Description:
ESL Teacher
Job Summary
Understand, implement, and support students who have been identified as an ESL learner. The teacher will provide a variety of strategies to assist with students in learning the English language. The teacher will implement their teaching process based on the students’ level in the ESL program.
Duties/Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist with the administration of all state mandated testing for English Language Learners (ELLs) in order to design and place students in programs that best fit their needs.
Increase the academic performance of English learners by designing and implementing pullout and/or push-in language acquisition instruction for ELL’s within the school.
Build school-wide capacity of best practices for ELL’s through co-planning/teaching, planning and facilitating professional development, and collaborating with teachers and building administrators.
Provide daily engaging instruction to students in large group settings, small group settings, and one-on-one, using a multitude of instructional strategies.
Review and analyze student data daily to inform instruction and planning and implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes.
Take responsibility for student progress, constantly working to respond to students’ learning needs.
Communicate with parents and students to provide updates on student progress.
Maintain student progress notes and maintain proper student records.
Working collaboratively with teachers and the school-wide team to develop and revise curriculum based on student needs.
Use technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication
Possess organizational skills for keeping track of students in different settings, for ESL compliance paperwork and related activities
Assist in the ongoing assessment process to determine each student’s status, which includes and is not limited to identification of ESL candidates, rights to ESL instruction, sheltered classroom instruction
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Depth of practical knowledge and skill regarding the academic and social-emotional needs of students acquiring English
Creativity, flexibility, and perseverance for working with students acquiring English, as well as with interactions with their parents
