Job Description:
The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-Day Program is seeking a Piano/Musical Theater Instructor – 20 hours per week.
The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program is seeking a Piano and Musical Theater Instructor/Accompanist. The ideal candidate will have experience in playing and teaching classical piano and accompanying both soloist and choral work. Classroom experience is desired as well as someone who has accompanied student vocalists in styles including but not limited to: Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz, Blues and Country.
This is a twenty hour/week position with benefits that will start Nov 27, 2023.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Selects appropriate learning materials including identifying and finding songs that are appropriate for individual students.
2. Has a strong knowledge of the musical theater canon, and works to find examples of pieces from underrepresented groups in the genre, and works explicitly to include them in the curriculum.
2. Creates a safe environment for learning, follows program procedures, maintains records in a timely fashion.
3. Facilitates student growth and development by effectively promoting student participation in the learning experience.
4. Communicates appropriate assessment techniques which inform students and parents of the expectations for the classroom. Periodically assesses student accomplishment of objectives and reviews assessment results with students and parents.
5. Participates in selected after school activities, including: student placement auditions, open houses, parent teacher conferences, curriculum night, performances and benefits.
6. Interacts with students, parents, school counselors and other personnel to communicate progress and accomplishments made by students based on educational goals set by curriculum and program expectations.
Requirements:
Minimum requirement: a current State Department of Education Adjunct Instructor Permit or BA/BFA in Music/Musical Theater performance or education, plus relevant performing and teaching experience. Eligibility for a Connecticut State Department of Education Adjunct Arts Instructor Permit required, requirements for permit eligibility: (1) hold a bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Governors of Higher Education, or regionally accredited, (2) have a minimum of three years of work experience in the arts or one year of work and two years of specialized schooling related to the applicant’s artistic specialty, and (3) at least one hundred eighty hours of cumulative experience working with children in a private or public setting, including, but not limit to, afterschool programs, group lessons, children’s theater, vocal or piano studio lessons, and artist-in-residence programs, or at least two years’ experience as a full-time faculty member at an institution of higher education or been employed by an eligible inter-district magnet school prior to July 1,2011 and for at least one year.
