GENERAL STATEMENT OF PROGRAM:
 
Stratford Public Schools in cooperation with the Stratford School Readiness and Child Care Advisory Council (SACAC), plans to offer one cycle of the Parents Supporting Educational Excellence (Parents SEE) program in the winter/spring of 2025. Parents SEE is a 13-session training program focused on parent leadership in education. The program provides strategies and tools to prepare parents, grandparents, and guardians to partner with schools, to improve education for all children. The program includes a five-hour retreat on a Saturday, 12 evenings from 5:00-9:30 p.m. with dinner, and a graduation event. Childcare is available upon request. The target population is 20-25 Stratford parents, foster parents, and grandparents of children in pre-kindergarten through grade six. The program will be held at Stratford Academy Johnson House beginning in February 2024. 
 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position of the Parent SEE Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of coordinating and implementing parent involvement for and within the training session program as described in the general statement. The coordinator will facilitate positive parent, school, and student relationships and work with parents and parent groups to support stronger ties to schools as well as to empower and assist participants in the implementation of the Parent SEE five themes: Equity, Leadership, Partnering, Change, and Educational Policies and Practices. This position is a grant-funded non-teaching position and does not involve student or classroom teaching. 
 
Reports to: Supervisor of Innovation & Engagement
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Parents Place program manager to implement upcoming training sessions.
  • Recruit and select participants that reflect the diversity of the community, in cooperation with a Design Team. 
  • Organize and coordinate the work for the parent leadership classes, Design Team meetings, and graduation activities. 
  • Arrange for meals, and child care, and support program participants with transportation as needed.
  • Collect, purchase, and print resource materials for facilitators and participants. 
  • Schedule session guest speakers. 
  • Attend and be site contact at all training sessions.
  • Oversee preparation and cleanup for each session. 
  • Participate in statewide coordinator meetings and conference calls. 
  • Complete and submit final reports and evaluations as required. 
  • Any additional responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor of Innovation & Engagement.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
A four-year degree from an accredited college or university preferred with a major in education, human services, social work, or a related field, plus two years of related human service/educational experience; or a combination of education and experience that provides a demonstrated potential for performing the duties of the position.
  • Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate who has completed the Parents SEE program.
 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
 
Must have reliable transportation as travel may be required.
 
TERM:
 
Part-Time: October 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.
 
8. 5 - 10 hours/per week with scheduled evening and weekend hours as needed.
 
COMPENSATION:
 
The salary for this grant-funded position is $25.00 per hour.
