VACANCY:              Director of Elementary Education (12-month position)
EFFECTIVE:           July 1, 2025
REPORTS TO:        Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

FUNCTION:             The Director of Elementary Education assists the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the oversight of all aspects of the District’s elementary education program, including the day-to-day operation of the five elementary schools. The Director will assist the Assistant Superintendent in the development and implementation of the District’s K-5 curriculum, will be responsible for scheduling and directing professional growth opportunities for elementary staff, and will provide leadership and support to building administrators and subject matter specialists. The Director will have primary responsibility for the gifted learner program and will serve as the point person for the MML program and serve as the elementary representative on the District’s MTSS Committee.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Five (5) years minimum teaching experience
  • Three (3) years minimum experience as a school or district administrator
  • CT Intermediate Administrator Certification (#092) 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices that result in student learning 
  • Demonstrated successful experience in leading and planning staff development
  • Extensive experience related to program implementation and student assessment data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with an experienced staff, integrating and coordinating individual efforts into a unified program
  • Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Per Contract between the Darien Board of Education and the Darien Administrators Association
