Position Summary
Clayton Municipal Schools is seeking a licensed High School Counselor to serve students in grades 7–12. The counselor will provide a comprehensive school counseling program that supports students’ academic achievement, career readiness, and social-emotional development, while aligning with New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) standards and district goals.

Position Summary
Clayton Municipal Schools is seeking a licensed High School Counselor to serve students in grades 7–12. The counselor will provide a comprehensive school counseling program that supports students’ academic achievement, career readiness, and social-emotional development, while aligning with New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) standards and district goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide academic, career, and social-emotional counseling to students in grades 7–12
- Assist students with course selection, graduation requirements, and postsecondary planning
- Support students with college, career, military, and workforce readiness planning
- Coordinate and monitor student academic progress, credit tracking, and graduation status
- Provide individual and group counseling services as appropriate
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and community agencies to support student success
- Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT), IEP, and 504 meetings as required
- Assist with crisis intervention, referrals, and student support planning
- Maintain accurate student records in compliance with FERPA and district policies
- Support schoolwide initiatives related to attendance, behavior, and student wellness
- Valid New Mexico School Counselor License (Level 1, 2, or 3) required
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
- Knowledge of NMPED graduation requirements and counseling standards
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively in a rural school environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and student support systems
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethics, and professional standards
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills
- School-year contract aligned with the Clayton Municipal Schools academic calendar
- Additional days or duties may be assigned as needed
- Salary based on the Clayton Municipal Schools Certified Salary Schedule
