TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF JOB: Bilingual Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree
Valid/current New Mexico teaching license with appropriate endorsement(s), Bilingual and ESL/TESOL endorsement preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Bilingual Director
JOB GOAL: To support the district’s instructional program by identifying students of limited English proficiency, planning appropriate developmental programs and implementing instruction in accordance with state law and regulations as well as district curriculum.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attendance:
• Adheres to district leave policy
• Punctual to job assignments and meetings
• Maintains physical stamina to meet demands of the job
• Other duties as assigned by Bilingual Director, Building Principal or Superintendent
Instructional Planning:
• Identify students with limited English proficiency in accordance with state and federal regulations as well as district policy.
• Use appropriate standardized test instruments, informal diagnostic tests, and observation to assess the academics strengths and weaknesses of students referred for services.
• In cooperation with the Building Principal and Bilingual Director, properly group students as necessary for instruction after consideration of the learning styles, and level of academic functioning of each student and their English proficiency.
• Assist in tests administration of students in the Bilingual program.
Classroom Management:
• Provide information in a clear and concise manner, using multi-sensory approach.
• Use words and content appropriate to the subject area and ability of students.
• Monitor all non-direct teacher activities for usefulness and appropriateness.
• Aid students in developing positive self-concepts.
• Maintain a high level of time on task and redirect students who are off task.
• Maintain a positive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
• Administer fair and consistent discipline.
• Use technology to enhance curriculum and instruction.
Physical Demands:
• The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with BOE policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary is established by salary schedule.
