The Arts Academy Elementary Charter School will provide a rich and comprehensive educational program for students in grades K-5 by employing an intensive artistic immersion program. A rigorous and traditional academic program will be enhanced with rich and varied weekly experiences in Dance, Instrumental Music, Visual Art, Vocal Music, Theatre and Gymnastics. Each student will be provided with a broad introduction to the arts in order to enhance their future academic success.

Substitute Teacher

Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction to students in an elementary classroom (Grades K-5) in the absence of the classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher is tasked with managing the learning environment and ensuring students follow classroom teacher lesson plans.  
 
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Report to the principal upon arrival at the school and review the plans and schedules to be adhered to during the school day
  • Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
  • Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher. Create instructional resources for use in the classroom
  • Deliver instructional activities
  • Create positive educational climate in which students can learn
  • Participates in on-going Professional Development as required by PDE
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans
  • Differentiate as needed for student population
  • Maintain an electronic or paper grade book
  • Perform administrative duties as needed
  • Works to stay abreast of current best practices in education
  • Utilize various curriculum resources
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence as required by Pennsylvania Department of Education
  • Utilizes curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served
  • Develops incentives to keep participants engaged in class
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Possible additional hours at the end of the school day if student situations warrant it
  • Additional tasks as requested by administration.
 
Reports to: Principal

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Degree in Elementary Education (Pre-K to 4 or 4-8) preferred
  • Experience in child care/academic setting preferred
  • Some ESL and Special Education background via Bachelor’s degree
  • PA Instructional I Certification/working toward Instructional II Certification preferred but not required
 
 
 
Compensation:

Pay is $130 per day.

This is not a full time position, but would be used on an as needed basis to cover absent teachers.

Acts 24, 31, 68, 114 and 151 clearances and Physical and TB test on PA State Standard form will be required to be completed the prior to the first day of employment.
