ABOUT THE POSITION Universal Schools Principals’ will lead the school community in achieving its academic and organizational goals, build and maintain a strong presence for schools in the community, and develop and cultivate enduring relationships with students, teachers, parents, community members and stakeholders. The principal serves as the building educational leader; manages policies, procedures and regulations to ensure a rigorous academic environment based on required curriculum and student achievement objectives; ensures student safety, applies appropriate behavior modification techniques; and provides daily management of all aspects of school operations. This is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic and visionary individual to play a central leadership role in growing and shaping a premier charter school committed to helping students achieve high levels of academic achievement from kindergarten through high school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance.
  • Develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures for the effective operation of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of Universal including instructional programs, extracurricular activities and discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures.
  • Supervises building staff; makes hiring, discipline and employment decisions; and conducts employee performance assessments.
  • Supervises the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and student development.
  • Establishes a safe environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior, enforces student discipline policies, and creates a positive school culture.
  • Models and demonstrates for staff effective classroom management techniques.
  • Implements procedures for orderly admission, quiet passing in halls, lunchrooms, socialized recess, and dismissal.
  • Maintains and posts data charts, reading, and writing accomplishments in prominent areas of the school. 
  • Maintains accurate data on student academic achievement, monitors student achievement and establishes effective interventions.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships and effective communication with students, parents, and staff.
  • Promotes Universal Charter schools, publicizes school activities and develops community partnerships.
  • Fosters dialogue with parents to achieve commitment and involvement
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification
  • Meets with central administration at least once per month and timely responds to requests for information
  • Ensures effective planning, preparation, intervention and implementation of all student testing
  • Works with central administration to plan effective staff professional development
  • Ensures substitute staff are obtained, assigned and monitored
  • Reviews and monitors School Improvement Plan; articulates school-wide performance goals and plans effective strategies to improve academic achievement of all scholars
  • Assures timely distribution of monthly school activity calendar
  • Collects and compiles information for Charter School Reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree or doctorate in Education Admin, or related field; must have PA Principal Cert
  • (10) years relevant education exp, (3) years administrative exp preferred.
