Job Description:
Berks County Intermediate Unit is seeking a Safety and Security Program Administrator to provide strategic direction and leadership for the overall coordination and administration of the Safety and Security program for the BCIU, and to provide consultation and technical assistance as requested by Berks County schools, including security, public safety, and emergency issues, as well, as coordinate the county-wide Safety and Security Consortium.
  1. Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or related field. In lieu of a Master’s Degree, will consider a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration or Education with a minimum of 10 years of experience working in a related field.
  2. Minimum of three years of administrative or leadership experience and five additional years of experience in school leadership, campus or private security, emergency management, and/or law enforcement required; experience in an educational organization preferred.
  3. Knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures, crime prevention, investigations, public safety training, life safety programs, and operations.
  4. Ability to train, plan, and implement the Incident Command System.
  5. Ability to understand the key roles associated with the Incident Command System.
  6. Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, motivate, and provide leadership to result in the best environment.
  7. Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, and proven performance and resource management skills.
  8. Ability to effectively lead, organize, and support the work of others.
  9. Proven presentation and training skills. 
  10. Demonstrated ability to design and implement short and long-range objectives.
  11. Ability to make recommendations on various topics (detailed, controversial, simple, or complex).
  12. Ability to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives.
  13. Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information.
  14. Ability to manage critical incidents successfully.
  15. Skilled in collaborative leadership of individuals and groups.
  16. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to effectively communicate during crisis situations.
  17. Knowledge or experience in leading in a K-12 school environment.
