Job Description:
Reach Cyber Charter School (Reach Cyber), a Pennsylvania Connections Academy, is a tuition-free, public cyber school serving students in grades K-11 statewide during the 2016-17 school year. The school will add one high school grade per year, ultimately serving students in grades K–12. Reach Cyber offers a variety of academic pacing options for students including a traditional school year option, a year-long school year option and an accelerated option. Reach Cyber is authorized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school utilizes the Connections Education program. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:
The School Officer is responsible for assisting families with school engagement by understanding truancy laws and guiding at-risk students to successful school attendance at Reach Cyber Charter School. The School Officer will work directly under the Attendance Coordinator.
The Truancy Officer will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
  • Manage a caseload students throughout the school year. (This caseload will change based on the number of truant students in the School Officer’s assigned region.)
  • Report to and meet monthly with the Attendance Coordinator. This meeting can be held either virtually or in-office.
  • Meet with students in their home to complete Student Attendance Improvement Plans, when needed.
  • File necessary truancy paperwork at local district magistrates in the Officer’s assigned region.
  • Attend court hearings for truant students in the Officer’s assigned region.
  • Maintain a cell phone, and utilize it to contact students and families that are on the caseload on a regular and as-needed basis.
  • Complete needed welfare checks on at-risk students.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Valid professional Teaching or School Counselor Certificate in Pennsylvania
  • Experience and solid knowledge of IEPs and related services
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
  • Team player track record
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for marketing, professional development, and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)
Preferred Knowledge:
  • Has completed the necessary training standards to be appointed “School Police Officer”
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Experience in a cyber education setting preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Ability to drive to various areas of the state
