Job Description:
Guadalupe Centers Schools are a free, open enrollment, public charter school currently serving students in grades K – 4 and 6 – 12. Guadalupe Centers Schools are part of the Guadalupe Education System (GES) under Guadalupe Centers, Inc. It is sponsored by the University of Central Missouri. The vision of GES is to empower students to succeed in college and their chosen professions by providing a rigorous and enriching learning experience that develops highly educated, socially conscious, culturally competent, contributing members of society.

PURPOSE OF JOB:  To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will support the rigor of the Missouri Learning Standard and aid all students in acquiring the 21st century skills needed to take full advantage of library resources. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Elementary librarians teach weekly library classes using the KCPS library curriculum.
  2. Secondary librarians teach research and reference lessons to support classroom instruction.
  3. Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
  4. Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of digital and print reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
  5. Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students who need reading support or have unusual intellectual interests.
  6. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational purposes outside the instructional day, when appropriate.
Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university having a teacher education program approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
  • Certified by the state of Missouri or working towards the certification (http://dese.mo.gov/eq/cert) to achieve highly qualified status;
  • Pass Criminal Background Check and Family Care Registry;
  • Committed to working with under-served students.
  • Spanish language is helpful.
Preferred:
Highly Qualified Status: this status requires a bachelor’s degree, the appropriate certification for the course/grade level they are teaching, and documentation of content expertise in the area they are teaching.
Experience in urban school setting.
 
Teachers hired by Guadalupe Educational systems who do not currently hold TESOL, ESOL, ESL, or similar credentials are required to work toward that goal within the first three years of employment.  GES identifies several avenues through which teachers can fulfill this commitment.
