Natchaug Hospital Schools, an approved State of Connecticut provider of special education, is recruiting a Special Education Teacher in the Journey House Residential Program in Mansfield CT. This is your opportunity to work in a unique environment where the emphasis is working with the students and not paperwork!  
 
Job Summary 
The teacher selected for this position will be responsible for the education of students in a clinical day treatment school. Journey House is currently comprised of one classrooms of approximately six students. An Educational Assistant supports the educational process, along with the clinician and others on the interdisciplinary team. Students are placed at Journey House Residential Program by the court system and may be placed for one week to six months. The program is committed to providing a comprehensive education that meets LEA graduation and transition requirements. 

Ideally, the candidate selected for this position would have experience teaching students with a primary disability of ED and hold special education certification in the state of CT. Academic classes are taught in a mostly self-contained environment with the exception of Art, PE, and group which are taught by the other teachers. The ability to work collaboratively with other staff, outside agencies, parents and school personnel is essential in creating a productive and successful environment for our students. Creativity and energy in the classroom, as well as the ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs, is required. A strong sense of community engagement is encouraged.

Work Flow Information
  • Eight hour work day (7:30-3:30 or 7:00-3:00 - Based on your preference)
  • Six hour school day
  • No "duties"
  • Average caseload 4-6 students
  • Average one or two PPTs per month (most often program reviews)
  • Residential support staff to assist with maladaptive behaviors
