GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the principal, the position's responsibilities fall into two categories. As a
teacher, the mathematics specialist is responsible for providing direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, to enable students to develop mathematics skills. As a mathematics leader, the position is responsible for implementing Singapore Math and Into Math programs through coaching, supporting, and guiding teachers in best practices for mathematics instruction.
ESSENTIAL TASKS

DIRECT INSTRUCTION OF STUDENTS
(No more than 50% of the mathematics specialist's time shall be devoted to this category.)
  • Provide direct instruction for identified groups and individual students.
Mathematics LEADER/Department Chair
(At least 50% of reading specialist's time shall be devoted to coaching to include, but not limited to, co-teaching, collaboration, facilitation of instructional strategies, modeling, observing, and providing feedback.)
Performance Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with implementing the Into Math and Singapore Math program, including the PA Core Standards.
  • Assist the K-8 math interventionists, principals, and district directors in creating and implementing a school Mathematics Plan based on the PA Core Standards
  • Demonstrate exemplary math instruction for K-8 teachers through the following researched-based practices: observation, coaching, model lessons, collaborative lesson planning, and small and large group professional development
  • Help provide common Singapore Mathematics training for all K-8 teachers (regular classroom, SPED, ESL, etc.)
  • Assist teachers in diagnosing individual student mathematics weaknesses and match these areas of need with appropriate instructional strategies and resources based on the PA Core Standards of Mathematics
  • Assist with disaggregating and analyzing PSSA, Benchmark, and other school assessment data (i-Ready, Singapore Math, Common Unit Assessments) to help guide teachers' instructional decisions.
  • Assist the K-8 Math Interventionists in assessing school assessments and their appropriateness to the PA Core Standards of Mathematics
  • Monitor and report the effectiveness and progress of improved mathematics instruction and student performance to principal and PLC teams.
  • Help make recommendations regarding instructional materials.
  • Help create common mathematics assessments as needed
  • Participate in various training sessions for leaders of mathematics
  • Meet twice a month with the school K-8 Math Interventionists
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

walk at a speed that coordinates with students and may at times require the ability to run to
safeguard students.

8. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, move and/or restrain school-age students
9. This position's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
10. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather
conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school. Employees may be exposed to cleaning
fluids.

Salary Scale is starting from $56,000.00 based on qualification and experience.
