  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid PA Teaching Certification: K-6, K-8, N-3, K-4 or 4-8
  • State and federal background clearances
  • Experience working in an educational setting, i.e., daycare, school, after school/summer program.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Experience in a Leader In Me school
Job Description: 

Under the direction of the Director of Education and/or the Director of Student Services, the Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of every student; the development of leadership skills utilizing the Leader In Me Program; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each student’s abilities; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members. At all times, the Teacher will cooperate with other staff to maintain the smooth functioning of the school, which may require changes to meet the needs of the students.

Essential Duties:
  1. Instruct students utilizing a course of study which meets stated objectives and goals.
  2. Instruct students in citizenship and leadership skills.
  3. Establish a classroom environment that reflects the 8 Habits of Leader In Me Program.
  4. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with the adopted course of study.
  5. Provide individualized and small group instruction that is adapted to meet the needs of each student.
  6. Translate lessons plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage the students. 
  7. Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
  8. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  9. Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  10. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.
  11. Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing students’ needs.
  12. Create effective learning environments through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  13. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  14. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with school and state testing programs.
  15. Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  16. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities as required.
  17. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Education.
Other Related Functions of this Position:
  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  2. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  3. Participate in a Leader In Me Action Team and carry out all assigned duties related to the role.
  4. Implement grade level specific Leader In Me Student Leadership Binders to track student progress and achievement.
  5. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the student’s academic success.
  6. Respond to emergency situations (e.g. student injuries, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  7. Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  8. Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
  9. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom/workspace.
  10. Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics and student confidentiality.
  11. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
