Seeking Special Education Teachers for the 2022-23 School year.  Apply now for consideration!
POSITION SUMMARY: The special education teacher implements program goals and provides educational instruction to students in the Education Division as prescribed in the student's Individual Education Program (IEP) and in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations
  • Develop the IEP for each assigned student in coordination with but not limited to education facilitator, LEA rep, related services staff, and parent or guardian.
  • Develop instructional/lesson plans and related activities in support of the students' IEPs
  • Provide direct classroom instruction to students in accordance with the child's IEP and Elwyn's established curriculum
  • Complete all documentation related to IEP development, progress monitoring, Re-evaluation Reports (RR), Behavioral Support Plans (BSP), and Extended School Year (ESY) Program as required by PDE regulations
  • Provide oversight, direction, and support to all classroom assistants and aides with tasks including but limited to implementation of the IEP
  • Demonstrate flexibility in addressing daily situations involving children, parents, and classroom staff in areas including but limited to re/assignment of staff, assisting in de-escalation of student behaviors, and coordination of classroom activities
  • Utilize agency-established self-assessment protocol as a strategy for professional growth by
  • Participate in student staffing, meetings, and conferences
  • Provide student supervision outside of the classroom
  • Maintain student attendance and student-related records
  • Perform Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management as needed using agency-trained protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Davidson School
CONTACTS: Elwyn staff, parents/guardians, school districts/charter schools/LEAs representatives, allied health professionals behavioral health professionals
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education with Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Special Education certification; or eligibility for PDE emergency certification
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating data collection and developing IEPs, including experience in the planning, writing and implementation of IEPs, progress monitoring, positive behavior supports
  • Experience communicating with families, formally and informally, including engaging families in their child's education program
  • Experience with adaptive technology preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
