Job Title: Special Education Teacher – Student-Centered, Trauma-Informed Focus
Location: The Children's Home of Reading, Reading, PA
Job Type: Full-Time

Our goal is to empower students with diverse abilities to achieve their full potential in a supportive, student-centered setting.
Our schools offer 1:1 Chromebook access for all students, advanced technology in the classroom, and the flexibility to teach without the typical constraints found in traditional settings. This includes small class sizes, flexible options for seating, classroom design, and much more. We serve students with behavioral needs in the classroom, both from across the state in our Residential program and local community students from the region’s school districts.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher with expertise in behavior management and trauma-informed practices. Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to students’ unique strengths and needs.
- Utilize trauma-informed approaches to create a safe and supportive classroom environment.
- Plan and deliver differentiated instruction that aligns with students’ academic, social, and emotional goals.
- Address and manage challenging behaviors using positive reinforcement and evidence-based behavior intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure students’ success across settings.
- Maintain open communication with families, providing regular updates on student progress and strategies to support learning at home.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education and trauma-informed teaching.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Valid PA Special Education teaching certification.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly those with behavioral and emotional needs.
- Training or certification in trauma-informed practices preferred but will also be provided.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
