A payroll specialist in the central office is a key individual in communicating with students, teachers, principals and other school district staff.   This role requires that an individual maintain professionalism when dealing with all customer groups and have excellent organizational skills.  All employees of the central office must be familiar with many functions of the school district in order to give accurate information to the many customers with whom he/she comes in contact.  This individual must possess the organizational skills necessary to manage the variety of tasks which he/she is expected to complete.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications:  college degree and two years extensive payroll experience (computer automated).
  • Highly proficient in all aspects of payroll preparation.
  • Grammar, spelling, arithmetic, analytical and telephone skills.
  • Proficient in typing/computer PC keyboarding.
  • Strong math, accounting skills and experience in salary pro-ration calculations.  Ability to keep accurate records, files and reports. 
  • Ability to adapt to sole source software.
  • Must have legible handwriting, well groomed, pleasing manners and personality, dependable, reliable, prompt and flexible.
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently, performing individual projects and routine matters, with minimal direction from supervisor.
  • Excellent customer service skills:  Ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships with administrators, district staff, teachers, students and general public, dealing with all individuals courteously and tactfully.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records as applicable.
Length of Assignment: Twelve (12) months
Reports to: Director of Business and Finance
Evaluation:  Annually by the Director of Business and Finance
F.L.S.A: Non-Exempt
Responsibilities: 
  • Input information for new employees to be included on payroll.
  • Enter changes or update records concerning employee’s payroll.
  • Collect time sheets and record information needed to complete payroll.
  • Preparation of federal and state reports/forms, retirement reports and miscellaneous monthly payroll invoices. 
  • Assistance in preparation of insurance billings.
  • Preparation and submittal of district payroll quarterly and yearly reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate files concerning payroll on all district employees.
  • Assist employees with payroll and insurance questions in a timely, helpful manner.
  • Assist with other Business Office duties/activities as needed as assigned by the Director of Business and Finance.
