Job Description:
Highville Charter School is a public charter school located at 1 Science Park, New Haven, Connecticut that serves 500 students and their families.  Highville is currently seeking applicants for a School Business Manager to start immediately.  

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited secondary institution required
  • Certification as School Business Manager (085) preferred
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a School Business Manager, or in a position with similar responsibilities
  • Strong background in budget preparation and management
  • Effective staff leadership skills
  • Familiar with Connecticut legislative process and procedures of the State of Connecticut Department of Education
  • Familiar with Connecticut legislative process and procedures of the State of Connecticut Department of Education Turnaround Office as are applicable to public charter schools
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual corporate financial reports
  • Knowledge of applicable federal 501(c)3 not-for-profit agency requirements
  • Ability to write, oversee and report on grants
  • Demonstrated success with capital campaigns
  • Knowledge and experience of management of school facilities
  • Experience negotiating service contracts and vendor databases and relationships
  • Experience working with external auditors and familiarity with financial auditing processes and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience with all accounting functions necessary to sustain a not-for-profit educational institution
  • Possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal relationship skills
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development and management of Highville annual budget
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
  • Prepare and file required quarterly reporting to Bondholders
  • Prepare and report on other financial and operations reports as requested by Board of Directors
  • Participate in annual financial audit and provide all necessary support to auditors
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing all contracts as required by vendors or organizations associated with Highville
  • Responsible for procurements of all supplies and equipment necessary for all operations of the organization
  • Solicit bids and negotiate all policies of insurance, including building, personal property, liability, employment practices, worker’s compensation, health, dental, short term disability and long term disability
  • Ensure that Highville facilities meet educational, state, local, and federal requirements
  • Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors
  • Work collaboratively with academic leaders to plan for operations that support the instructional program, promote harmonious staff relations and secure a safe physical environment for pupils and staff
  • Sit-in on regularly scheduled meetings with school administration to ensure that operations support an optimal school environment for students and staff
  • Assure that all state and federal reports related to finance, operations, facilities, food service programs and staffing are completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Advises and helps develop policies necessary to meet state and federal requirements including those necessary for ongoing school operations
