Position Summary:
Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated Guidance Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of our students. The Guidance Counselor will work closely with students, families, and staff to foster a positive school environment, provide individual and group counseling, assist with college and career planning, and support students’ overall well-being.

Position Summary:
Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated Guidance Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of our students. The Guidance Counselor will work closely with students, families, and staff to foster a positive school environment, provide individual and group counseling, assist with college and career planning, and support students’ overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Counseling:
- Provide individual and group counseling to address academic, social, and emotional concerns.
- Develop intervention strategies to support students struggling with academic or personal challenges.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement strategies for student success.
- Mediate conflicts and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
- Assist students with course selection and academic planning based on graduation requirements and career interests.
- Support students in developing post-secondary plans, including college applications, scholarships, and career pathways.
- Organize college fairs, career days, and informational sessions for students and families.
- Guide students through the financial aid and scholarship application process.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Coordinate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and external mental health professionals when necessary.
- Work closely with school leadership to support a positive school climate and student well-being.
- Lead initiatives to promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and student engagement.
- Support school-wide programs focused on mental health, anti-bullying, and wellness.
- Conduct workshops for students, staff, and families on relevant topics such as stress management, goal setting, and college preparation.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions while ensuring confidentiality.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans as needed.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding student support services.
- Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Certification: Pennsylvania School Counseling Certification required.
- Experience: Prior experience as a school counselor preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff.
- Knowledge of college and career readiness programs.
- Experience with crisis intervention and student mental health support.
- Proficiency in student information systems and counseling software.
- Experience working in a charter school or arts-focused educational setting.
- Familiarity with the unique needs of creative and performing arts students.
- Training in trauma-informed care and restorative justice practices.
- Full-time, Monday–Friday.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required for school events.
