Job Description:
To promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to administrators, teachers, students and parents.

- Uses the majority of time providing direct services through the guidance curriculum, individual student support services, and most remaining time in program management, system support, and accountability.
- Delivers a comprehensive school counseling program.
- Responds to students and parents in a timely manner.
- Provides sensitive and confidential service to students and parents.
- Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals by meeting with students individually, in small groups or classes.
- Incorporates the life skills that students need to be successful in the twenty-first century into counseling programs. This includes providing opportunities for students to develop the ability to make positive choices, enhance self-concept, and relate well with others.
- Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, including support for the college search process using technology like Naviance.
- Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data and assist teachers and parents/guardians in interpreting and understanding student data.
- Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning.
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
- Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
- Implements an effective referral and follow-up process as a part of the school’s intervention team.
- Visits the home of students as needed.
- Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program.
- Updates, maintains, and tracks 504 Plan information.
- Coordinates and/or administers standardized tests in accordance (e.g. PSSA, Keystone Exam, universal screening, AP exams, SATs, ACTs, etc.) with District testing program.
- Proactively communicates with building administration regarding crisis situations.
- Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the District Policy, Administrative Policy, and Pennsylvania law.
- Communicates with parents/guardians during and outside normal classroom day to create partnership around student learning by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, and other means to the department curriculum/program.
- Attends district department and faculty meetings and serves on district committees as required.
- Attends established traditional school-sponsored activities (i.e.: back-to-school night)
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Valid PA Department of Education Certificate in appropriate area.
- Strong skill set in human relations, communications, problem solving and organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Completion of School Health Physical and TB test
- Completion of required background clearances
- Act 34 - Criminal History Clearance
- Act 151 - Child Abuse History Clearance
- Act 114 - Federal Criminal Background Check
