Job Description:
The Director of Development is responsible for building and overseeing an infrastructure that enables The Master’s School (TMS) to build relationships with current and potential donors in order to raise money in a godly manner. The Director of Development reports to the Head of School and is responsible for all facets of the schools fundraising including planning and executing the Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Parent and Alumni Relationships, Planned Giving, Donor Communications, and Data Management.
Qualifications and Skills:
This position requires a candidate who is a self starter and can work independently toward a common goal in addition to the following:
  • Previous fundraising experience or a demonstrated passion for becoming a fundraising professional
  • A history and references that speak to past success in the chosen field
  • Experience facilitating effective communications between various constituents including Trustees, parents, past-parents, Alumni and others
  • Ability to establish effective organizational and community relationships
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor databases
  • Ability to organize and interpret data
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, competing projects and meeting established goals
  • A commitment to The Master’s School mission, core values and vision

  • Commitment to keep current with innovations in the fundraising industry enhancing both personal and professional productivity
  • Generate and implement an overall cohesive fundraising plan, prioritizing a realistic plan in conjunction with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees
  • Set and fulfill annual fundraising goals for the capital, annual and endowment priorities
  • Work with the Head of School creating a fundraising strategy identifying up to 50 donors or prospects that the Head of School should develop relationships and solicit helping ensure that the Annual Fund meets its goal
  • Use donor lists to develop strategies and solicit individuals who have given to the Annual Fund in the past
  • Enhance existing relationships while building new relationships, systems, and programs that further tap into the generosity and resources of the community
  • Create, establish and execute fundraising programs and community building events (i.e. golf, homecoming, Thanksgiving dinner, Gala, etc.) that build relationships ranging from current parents to alumni providing for potential fundraising for the school
  • Organize and implement a planned giving committee made up of interested individuals in the community who can contribute time, talent and/or resources for the school’s strategic plan
  • Work closely with the admissions and marketing departments to facilitate advancement and marketing strategies, cast vision broadly and represent TMS to the community
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring donor receipt and thank you messaging, ensuring that the data is in a form that allows for consistent analysis, tracking and reporting
  • Provide regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditures related to fundraising along with the annual report
  • Assist in preparing social media releases as needed
The Master’s School mission is to glorify Jesus Christ by providing an excellent education in a supportive environment in order to equip students to impact the world for Christ both now and in the future.  The Master's School is a non-denominational, Christian, college-preparatory day school enrolling boys and girls in preschool through grade 12.  Founded in 1970, The Master's School is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Enrollment typically is around 220 students, with classes averaging 15 students.
