Job Description:
The Woodbridge School District consists of one school: Beecher Road School, a PreK-6 elementary school employing approximately 165 staff members to serve and educate approximately 850 students. The Director of Special Services is responsible for all special services for the Woodbridge School District.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leads special services in the Woodbridge School District to ensure the success and achievement of all students based on district and school goals, relevant federal and State mandates, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Develops and implements high-quality professional learning for staff, linked to building capacity through the supervision and evaluation of all special services staff, including approximately 20 certified teachers, approximately 30 paraeducators, and affiliated support staff
  • Develops, administers, and monitors procedures for formal special services identification and evaluation
  • Chairs Planning & Placement Team meetings for the District
  • Monitors the implementation of Individualized Education Plans across classrooms and service providers at Beecher Road School and for students who are outplaced or, as required by law, in non-public school settings
  • Leads implementation of the District’s Child Find responsibilities
  • Develops, administers, and monitors the program and operations of the District’s preschool
  • Develops, administers, and monitors the District’s Extended School Year Program for students with special needs
  • Develops, administers, and monitors identification of, and programming for, students who are talented and/or gifted
  • Manages the financial affairs of the Special Services Department of the Woodbridge School District in close coordination with the Director of Business Services & Operations, including proper accounting procedures for funds potentially reimbursable from external sources
  • Develops, administers, and monitors special services grant requests and grant funds for the Woodbridge School District in close coordination with members of the Business Office staff
  • Collaborates with other administrators and staff in promoting a positive District and school culture and climate
  • Serves as the District’s Safe School Climate Coordinator, the Title IX Coordinator and Investigator, and internal investigator for harassment-based complaints involving both students and staff
  • Communicates effectively with all constituents regarding district and school goals and special education services
  • Advises the Superintendent on policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines related to special services
  • Monitors the District’s compliance with all relevant legal mandates
  • Participates in ongoing professional learning related to special services
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, including serving as District lead when the Superintendent is out of district
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Required:
  • Current CSDE certification (#065, #165, #070, #071, or an equivalent) as a special education teacher or special services provider
  • Current CSDE certification (#092) in intermediate administration/supervision
  • Background, interest, and/or expertise in special education at the elementary level
  • Superior planning, prioritizing, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary
Preferred:
  • Experience as a school- or district-based administrator

This position is a full-time, full-year position. Start date is anticipated to be on or about July 1, 2022. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Agreement between the Board and the Woodbridge Association of School Administrators.
