Position Summary 
 
The District Grounds Maintenance employee will provide support in all areas of building systems and mechanical maintenance with a focus on seasonal field maintenance. He/she will work under the direction of the Lead of Maintenance and the Director of Operations. 
 
Essential Functions

The District Grounds Maintenance employee:
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and maintains all aspects of field maintenance equipment and grounds work. 
  • Identifies a problem and determines whether or not assistance is required to resolve it. 
  • Performs occasional interior building maintenance duties. 
  • Compiles and maintains an inventory of supplies and hardware for all areas of preventative maintenance. 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Lead of Maintenance or Director of Operations.
The District Grounds Maintenance employee must be able to:
  • Maintain a stationary position to operate computer, printer, telephone and other desktop equipment.
  • Move about schools and Central Office to maintain fields, troubleshoot and diagnose field maintenance equipment functionality, perform grounds work, and operate equipment to remove snow.
  • Hold a valid State of Connecticut driver’s license.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.
Education and Experience   
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Working knowledge of field maintenance equipment and field maintenance best practices are required. 
  • Extensive experience as a field maintainer and groundskeeper at a pupil or private school or college, may be considered.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
 
May be representative, but not all-inclusive of those associated with the position.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to acquire knowledge quickly and effectively. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, establish priorities and work independently. 
  • Ability to operate email and work with computer-based programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite programs. 
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members and school staff. 
  • Ability to perform a skills/knowledge based walkthrough periodically.
  • Possess basic knowledge of carpentry. 
  • Possess background or knowledge of Irrigation Systems.
  • Ability to work independently and see a job from start through completion.
  • Ability to perform small engine repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
Background Check 
 
The District Grounds Maintenance employee must submit to a satisfactory
  • CT Department of Children and Families background check.
  • State and national criminal history record check. 
Documents necessary to complete the check must be submitted within 10 days of hire.
 
Work Year
 
This is a 10-month position. The work year is February 1 to November 30.
 
Salary
 
The salary range is $32,000 to $36,000.
