Job Description:
The Goodwin University Magnet School System is actively searching for a full time District Attendance Specialist to join our dynamic team of educators. Our school district which includes our Elementary School Riverside Magnet serving students grades Pre-k-5, and our Middle and High School's The Connecticut River Academy ( which is a Sustainability Studies/Early College magnet school operated by Goodwin University on its river campus in East Hartford serving students in grades 6 through 12. 


The District Attendance Specialist  will operate under the guidance of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, collaborating closely with building level administration, attendance assistants, and other student support personnel. 

This essential role involves ensuring compliance with all state and district guidelines for school attendance, to include:
  • Attendance Monitoring/Programming:
    • Attends training and meetings at the discretion of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services to stay current with attendance policies, practices, and programs  
    • Monitors attendance across all buildings to ensure compliance with applicable policies and practices
    • Analyzes attendance data in regards to trends and patterns to determine necessary interventions
    • Collaborates with building level attendance assistants to identify scholars requiring interventions
    • Assists in the development of record keeping systems for attendance and interventions
    • Maintains district and building level data on attendance
    • Collaborates with district personnel to provide information for state reporting 
  • Attendance Interventions:
    • Reviews and makes recommendations for district wide systems to address attendance
    • Monitors interventions to assess fidelity, progress, and outcomes
    • Develops and maintains list of community based agencies and resources
    • Makes referrals to community based agencies and resources as appropriate 
    • Makes referrals to DCF in accordance with guidance for educational neglect as required 
  • McKinney-Vento:
    • Attends training and meetings at the discretion of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services to stay current with McKinney-Vento  
    • Processes McKinney-Vento submissions including all stakeholders
    • Follows up on submissions for McKinney-Vento with appropriate stakeholders
    • Communicates status of McKinney-Vento with appropriate stakeholders
  • Case Management:
    • Develops and implements individual plans to address attendance
    • Makes phone calls to families, meets with students, and conducts home visits to improve attendance
  • Miscellaneous Responsibilities:
    • Serves on various district and school committees as determined by the administration
    • Performs other duties as assigned
Hiring Pay Range: $65,000
  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services Field (i.e., social work, psychology) or Education 
  • Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
  • Certification as a parent educator or similar certification program preferred
  • Prior experience in education, community outreach, or human services
  • Experience in collaborating with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in analyzing data and implementing systems/programs
  • Experience working directly with children and families
