Position Summary:
- Provide pre-referral intervention for students suspected of having or hearing needs.
- Provide direct and indirect service to students identified as Hearing Impaired (HI) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and regular education students as appropriate.
- Participates in writing Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for HI students.
- Administers assessments to students, interprets test results, writes reports, and shares results at Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings.
- Consult with teachers, pupil service staff, and paraprofessionals to recommend modifications/accommodations to support hearing needs within the LRE.
- Consult with parents of HI students (as appropriate) to suggest strategies that can be used at home to help remediate the area of impairment.
- Carry out IEP goals/objectives corresponding to hearing needs.
- Participate in PPT meetings for all HI students.
- Recommend intervention and test materials appropriate for students with hearing needs.
- Seek ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Carries out other responsibilities as designated by the Director or Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Services and/or building principal.
- Promotes inclusion of students with HI's whenever appropriate.
- Certification: Current State of Connecticut Certification Endorsement Code (057)
- Education: Bachelor‘s Degree
- Experience: Servicing students with HI in a public school setting (preferred)
- Ability to meet legal timelines with respect to IEP/PPT, and 504 paperwork.
- Ability to relate to students in order to engage them in learning.
- Ability to work collaboratively with members of a team to promote student success.
