Job Description:
Woodstock Public Schools is currently seeking a paraeducator to serve as a language facilitator for student(s) with hearing impairments. Use of both spoken language and sign language are required with a preference for ASL. Candidates available full-time or part-time with flexible hours are encouraged to apply. The language facilitator assists the student’s use of strategies to support access to the curriculum, daily navigation of the school environment, and communication between peers, adults, and staff. Job responsibilities for the language facilitator may include providing access to information presented in the general education setting, assisting access to special education and related services content, increasing spoken and sign vocabulary, fostering independence and advocacy skills, and record keeping and data management responsibilities.
Reports to:
Director of Student Services, Building Principal, and Case Manager.
Hold an Associate Degree or have successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment.
Have training and experience working with students with hearing impairments and special needs.
Must be able to implement teacher-directed work modifications and/ or behavioral interventions.
Must be able to provide interpreter services between student and others in both spoken and sign languages.
Record and maintain required records and documentation of student’s daily activities related to IEP goals and general
education content requirements.
Prepare and provide needed instructional visual/tactile aids as needed for teacher-directed lessons.
Must be able to physical accompany students during special areas (e.g., art, music, gym) as well as indoor and outdoor activities including recess, field trips, and other off-campus events as needed.
May be required to tutor academic classes at the request of an administrator and under the supervision of a certified teacher.
